Ansley and Patrick were married at the First United Methodist Church in Newnan, GA on August 27th, 2011. Their reception was at the Coweta Club just 10-15 minutes away from the ceremony location.

They were an absolute incredible couple to work with in 2011. They were literally so much fun, always smiling, constantly laughing and enjoying each other's company. Their connection was undeniable. The images captured were centered around their interactions with each other, the wedding party and their family.

One of my friends recently asked me, "How can you, as a photographer, know if a couple will stay together forever?" I simply replied, "You see it, you feel it and you just know." Thinking about that statement makes me realize that's how I felt when Steve and I dated (my husband and photographic partner). That statement is true of this couple too. Their day was clearly a blast, but as Steve and I became more involved in the wedding, we realized that everyone who attended was overjoyed for their uniting. As a photographer this is something that we take notice of and it makes our job that much easier. Ansley and Patrick are a lucky couple and we know they will have an amazing journey as husband and wife!

We received the opportunity to photograph at The Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center. It is literally such a beautiful location to celebrate a wedding. They have an amazing outdoor courtyard for ceremonies and a stunning ballroom for receptions! It's every photographers dream to have a wedding full of immaculate details, in order to capture the true essence of the day in it's entirety. Lucky for us, this wedding was full of spectacular details that made our time spent photographing all the more enjoyable and gave us the freedom to really incorporate our artistic touch.

Ashley and Dave were one of the most amazing couples to work with on their wedding day. Aside from granting us an whole hour for group portraits after the ceremony, they also reserved a shuttle bus for the entire bridal party to take them to a picturesque lakefront park! This couple had photography as one of their top priorities for their wedding day and that certainly is evident through their images. Although we still worked fast we had enough time to really create amazing fine art imagery of the bridal party and couple.

Looking Back While Looking Ahead

Alas! 2012 is no longer upon us... it's here! (Are you as shocked as I am?) I can't help but look back and reflect on all that has happened in 2011. While I was reminiscing on all these events, I jotted down some memorable accomplishments that I would love to share with you all:

As you can see, the AWP team was certainly busy, but we love it that way!

Beginning a new year always leaves me feeling inspired and excited with what the next months will hold. We have decided for the year of 2012 to take on less clients, which will allow us to give more one on one time with each client, learning more about them, and building relationships with them before their big day. New Years Eve Wedding Photography

News Years Eve in itself is a day/night to celebrate, and since everyone is already in a celebratory mood, why not have your wedding on such day! Steve and I have always wanted to photograph a New Years Eve wedding and when we met Lisa and Gary a year ago at a the Bridal Extravaganza Atlanta, our dream job became a reality. We were beyond elated.

Their wedding was at Brasstown Valley Spa and Resort in Young Harris Georgia on December 31, 2011. Brasstown Valley is a beautiful resort tucked away in the mountains about two hours north of the city and offers an escape from the hussle and bussle of everyday life. For their guests, this wasn't just a one day event: it was a weekend getaway. Of course, the mountains are enough to keep you occupied, but this resort offered access to a local winery and brewery for some social amusement before and after the wedding.

We enjoyed working with Maria Thacker an amazing event coordinator/planner who spent a great deal of time working on details such as alternating heights on candles, lining the ceremony aisle, a perfectly decorated table with new years eve wear and a midnight balloon drop above the dance floor! The decadent arrangements of flowers are done by The Flower Garden located in Blairsville. The cake was custom made by Melissa's Custom Cakes, which turned out to be dazzling and delectable, if I do say so myself. To keep the party rolling all throughout the night, shout out to Lou Guzzo from Spectrum Entertainment who certainly knows all the hot jams to play for non stop shoulder shaking, feet stomping fun.

Polo Golf and Country Club Bridal Portraits / Cumming, GA Wedding Photography

Talk about perfect weather, an amazing sunset and a beautiful bride-to-be; these images are some of my favorite fashion bridals of all time!

I was using a Nikon flashes off camera with a soft boxes for beautiful even lighting. That's what fashion bridal sessions are all about; the ability to do extreme lighting, have the best weather conditions possible and choose a location that takes your photographs over the top.

Spending two hours with a bride at sundown is something we don't have time for on a wedding day, but scheduling it before or after her day gives us the ability to take a bride and make images fit for a queen. The very best part is that the bridal images can be included into the wedding album; making for an album with top notch imagery.

These photographs are from a promotional session done for Polo Golf and Country Club in Cumming, GA. We are a preferred photography vendor at the facility.

Breakfast at Tiffany's Themed Bridal Shower

How cute! A "Breakfast at Tiffany's" themed bridal shower brunch with tiffany blue, white and black accents. All guests arrived wearing black dresses with pearls (the bride-to-be also arrived with big round sunglasses impersonating Audrey Hepburn).

The biggest hits of this party were the hand crafted decor and amazing cake and matching cupcakes with edible glitter made by the maid of honor (which were as yummy as they look). The brunch included a wide variety of delicious homemade foods as well as some store purchased items. The biggest homemade hit was a cheesy potato casserole and egg, sausage and cheese soufflé'. There was a beverage station including coffee, bottled water, orange juice and champaign; each guest was able to enjoy a refreshing afternoon mimosa!

Shower games included a hollywood famous couple match up (to get guests to interact together). Everyone had a name taped to their back and had to ask questions to help them know who their star was. Once they figured out who they were, they had to find their partner. The first team to match-up won a prize. Other games included bridal bingo using personal references, name the famous quote and a bridal dress made with toilet paper team activity.

This event was hosted at the Calamar Clubhouse in Cumming, Georgia for Ashley Black; one of our amazing November brides. We can't wait for her fall themed wedding in just a few weeks at Windermere Golf and Country Club.

Lifestyle Newborn Portraits - William Chase Holcombe

This sweet little one is William "Chase" Holcombe, an eight day old baby boy. He rarely cries, and loves to be up and moving around. Once he was able to get a good meal he he was out like a light and I could move him into the pose of my choosing. That's what I call the "SWEET SPOT"; when I'm able to create all my best newborn photographs!

Chase's mother, Cristi Holcombe is an interior designer and Owner of Charm Home, here in Atlanta. His father; Billy Holcombe, is a Social Media Manager at Liz Lapidus Public Relations. Cristi did a fabulous job designing and decorating his nursery (you can check out the photos here) and after seeing it in person I was inspired to leave all my lighting in the bag and use her new home as my backdrop.

Their home had lots of large windows that provided great natural lighting in several of the rooms and it was easy to use low aperture lenses to capture great shots with no flash. Matter of fact I didn't use flash all day!

Thank you both for allowing me to photography such a beautiful new baby boy!

Robin and Ben's wedding photographs at Forrest Hills Mountain Resort

These are photographs from Robin and Ben's wedding on May 28, 2011 at Forrest Hills Mountain Resort. This great, rustic venue in the heart of Dahlonega is a great venue for someone who wants their wedding to feel like a retreat or escape from the city. Robin and Ben like going on weekend trips, so this was a perfect way for people that attend their wedding. Guests escaped and vacationed for the weekend in the beautiful cabins that Forrest Hills offers. Robin rode in on a horse carriage to the ceremony, which was a unique idea! They make such a great couple and the images that we captured you can really tell how in love they are!

Laurens "Floral Art at it's Finest" did the flowers for this wedding, which were AMAZING! The bride and groom portraits we shot really captured the moment and the scenery was absolutely beautiful. . We wish the couple the best in life and in their marriage.

These are photographs from Jamie and Marianno's wedding on May 21, 2011. We shot the pre-ceremony photographs at the Renaissance Hotel in Midtown Atlanta. It was a great, modern style hotel and we were able to capture so many stunning images. Steve and I photographed the ceremony and reception at the Mason Murer Fine Arts Gallery. They lighting was absolutely perfect and we got so many amazing photographs to capture their once in a lifetime moments. We worked with a wedding coordinator, his name was Warren Huntley with Warren Huntley Presents. He helped design the amazing candy buffet that was a hit with all the guests!

The wedding was so beautiful and the couple made it easy to capture their love and compassion for one another. We them a happy married life that is full of love, joy and happiness.

Wedding at Summour Studios Atlanta

These are photos from Creighton and Nick's wedding. They had their ceremony at St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church and their reception at Summerour Studio. They had a Greek Orthodox Ceremony and we got some great photos of the crowning and the circling around the table. The couple was very easy to photograph. They were so happy and so in love! We got so many wonderful photographs that really captured their once in a lifetime moment. They had a great wedding coordinator, Victoria Brown with Creme de la Chic. We loved working with her! The couple was on time with everything, which really helped us get all the photos they wanted and then some! We hope that their married life is full of fun, joy, love, laughter, and much happiness!

Tara & Rob's Atlanta Wedding May 7th, 2011

Tara and Rob had an amazing wedding at Rob's parents home on Northside Drive in Atlanta. This wasn't your typical house; especially since Rob's father is the owner of a high end home building company. Their home was the most spectacular house I've ever had the pleasure of entering! The facility was spectacular and so are the images.

The couple was so laid back and easy to work with. We felt like part of the family. The wedding was full of their closest friends and family members and they really had a blast during the reception. By the end of the night thriller was playing and the dancing was out of control.

Ashley & Ryan Country Engagement Session in Cumming, Ga

We really had a great time photographing Ashley and Ryan's engagement session in a beautiful field. This happened to be a cow pasture that was less than a mile from their home. Not only was the location special to them, but it really set the mood for the style of images that the couple requested.

They are very laid back and just enjoy being together. Ashley brought a picnic basket, fresh flowers, bottled coke and several old books that were about Georgia. She laid them on light purple quilt. Every detail was planned. Knowing Ashley's vision before the session and hearing about her props, Steve and I also gathered some props. We brought an old chalk board, pink paper umbrella and five helium balloons. On location we also found flowers, a horse and a rickety fence to add as accessories to the images.

Centennial Olympic Park Atlanta Engagement Photography

Jamie and Marianno's engagement session at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta was so much fun! We started by the waterfall and moved around in a large circle through the park. We ended at the fountains and get a little wet; however it allowed us to make awesome images in the olympic rings! The trick was finding one fountain that was broken, so we could jump through, even if the water was going.

Jamie and Marianno's wedding is just a few weeks away at the Mason Murer Art Gallery. We are so excited to be there wedding day photographers!

Brittany and Ryan's Chattahoochee River Engagement Session

These are photos from an engagement session at the Chattahoochee River with Brittany and Ryan! Steve and I were both there to photograph the couple. It was a hour long engagement session with one clothing change. It was a nice day out and the couple choose a great place for the session. It was in their complex by there pool area where it overlooked the Chattahoochee River. There was also a bridge and rocks that could lead them down by the Chattahoochee. Needless to say, we got some great photos and are really excited about shooting their wedding!

Kim & Rob's Spring Engagement Session at Roswell Mill

These are some new photos from an engagement session with Kim and Rob!! Steve and I were both there to photograph the couple. We had an awesome time photographing them. It was at Roswell Mill and it was a beautiful sunny day! We got some great photos and the couple was so easy to photograph. They were so natural and we didn't have to tell them how to pose. We loved meeting Kim and Rob and are so excited about shooting their wedding!

What To Think About When Selecting Your Photographer

You’re getting married, and you want it documented with the same attention to detail that you are giving to planning the event. And after all, the photographs are the only thing that remain to remember this day by.

Having been documenting weddings for over a decade, my husband and I decided to write down some of our thoughts based on feedback we have gotten through the years from our own clients.

There are more photographers than ever and it's overwhelming for girls planning a wedding to sort through and make decisions about who to use for their big day. Here are a few things that you may want to think about when navigating the ocean of photographic possibilities:

1- chemistry

2- experience

3- style

4- references/reputation

5- cost

I know it seems counter intuitive to have cost be the last item to worry about, but honestly, no matter how little you spend on a service, you may realize the extra money you saved will never be enough compensation for missed moments or just bad work. Unlike a broadway show, your wedding will be one day, and one day only. Not a good time to gamble.

Let’s talk a bit about the other articles on the list that lead up to your photography investment:

1. Chemistry: You can’t explain it but it’s just that feeling of comfort and security you get when you know you’re in good hands. It‘s more about just liking each other, though that should be part of it, beyond that you need feel like this person “gets” you and your fiance. Remember you’ll spend more time with your photographer on the wedding day than you will with your new spouse so make sure you feel really good around her/him.

2. Experience: This is tricky because sometimes experience translates into an “I’ve been doing this forever and I’m bored” attitude. What you’re looking for is someone who is passionate about what they do. That way you get the best of all worlds – enthusiasm and the security to know they have seen all kinds of circumstances happen (and are prepared) and they will be around tomorrow – nothing worse than trying to find your photographer after the fact only to learn that they have skipped town…with your images. In weddings the only thing predicable is the unpredictable. You need someone who will handle it all in stride and enjoys the “thrill” of a new experience every time.

Experienced vendors also bring you the benefit of their long-term relationship with other vendors. This can assist you in planning and guarantee that everything comes together on the wedding day with ease. Experienced professionals also come with all the back-up equipment, liability insurance and all the behind the scenes things that make a real difference in your security.

3. Style: This is all about your personality being captured in your images. It’s really easy to be swayed by the trends that you see in all the magazines but remember you want a timeless record of your day and your story. That doesn’t mean you can’t have it all, but find a photographer who’s aesthetic speaks to you and you’ll never be sorry. The biggest package in the world with all the bells and whistles won’t matter if the images are lacking.

4. References and reputation: This is huge. In our experience over 90% of our business comes from word of mouth and our clients stay with us for a lifetime. It’s all about value for your investment and the saying holds true that you “get what you pay for” having someone who is trusted in their community, respected by other professionals, and who have a gushing following of clients will realize all that is at stake every time they take a job. Someone who’s doing this on the side for a ‘quick buck’ only cares until that check is cashed.

5. Cost: Budgets are a part of weddings but we wary of focusing too much on this aspect. For the same reason you would not look for a “discount” surgeon you should not allow price to be the only factor you consider when choosing your photographer. Someone who is willing to discount their services greatly obviously does not value that service. If you find an artist who’s work you love and you let them know that, more often than not there will be a way for you to find common ground over price. Even the most expensive artists want to work “get” their vision and appreciate the value of it. The best “deal” is no deal at all when you don’t have the photos you want after it’s all over. You might have well as just thrown it away. Your memories are worth an investment, not a deal.

Traveling with Camera Gear on a Plane

After going to Miami for a recent engagement shoot I realized that taking so much expensive equipment on a plane can be tricky. I have a Tenba rolling camera equipment suitcase that holds over $15,000 worth of lenses and bodies. Unfortunately the suitcase was just large enough not to fit in my overhead bin, causing me a lot of stress over what I should do. I wanted to make sure that my camera bag wasn't taken away and checked below the plane. I don't trust that it will arrive without being tossed around or have items missing up arrival (since we are not allowed to lock our bags).

MY LEARNING LESSON: Go to the front desk as soon as you arrive at the gate (be at gate at least an hour early) and see if you can get moved to be in the 1st group to board the plane. This way your equipment can be placed in the front closet as you enter the plane or at least allow for you to see if your bag fits in the overhead bin before the bins are full. This will be dependent on the plane size and overhead bin storage capacity/availability. There are too many people trying to take their bags on the plane to save money. It causes the last people to board to have their bags taken away and checked. If your a photographer with a lot of equipment you want to plan ahead!

This is an engagement session taken at Windermere Golf and Country Club in Cumming, GA; where my husband and I are the main preferred wedding photography vendors.

Tiffany and Greg met me at sundown and we were able to take these images getting the very best color. After photographing several sessions at the club I love returning to try new ideas and places each time. The photographs keep getting better and better and I can't wait for our next wedding there in April!

Hunter Family Fall Photography Session

These images are of the Hunter Family. They have two boys; ages 17 months and 3 years. Two young boys are really fun and high energy! They were so sweet. I interacted and played with them to get the smiles you see here. They loved it when I tossed leaves and asked them to say funny things like "I have purple feet". One lesson I learned was that having the boys toss leaves above their head eventually leads to tossing leaves at each other. Leave that until the end of the session.

Tim & Jill Engagement Photographs at Roswell Mill

These images are from another great Roswell Mill engagement photo session; this time with Tim and Jill. We started photographing on the covered bridge, then wondered through the pathways behind the bridge for some images on the trails. Tim and Jill love to hike and this made their images personal and even more

special to them! They hiked these same trails on their first date. Before leaving we stopped by the waterfall and took some photos on the large rocks.

Elita and Matt Engagement Session at Sundown

We photographed on the Golf Course at Windermere Golf and Country Club on Monday evening. The light was too harsh at first, then by 6:20 PM it was perfect. We had about an hour for beautiful even lighting then came sundown. Just as they changed clothes into jeans and white shirts I saw the pink sky and we ran out to capture the amazing colors of the sun. It was freezing cold and Elita was able to look comfortable in these pictures, what a sport!

The trick to this photos was having the time to scout spots and wait for perfect light.

This was Aiden's 6 month photo session outside in Atlanta. He is an adorable baby and only cried one time; when he was on his tummy.

He smiled a lot and laughed too which made it easy to capture the perfect moments. Tiffany and Greg are his parents and they are so sweet. Photographing them was a joy since they naturally loved on and kissed Aiden through the entire session. I can't wait to photograph them in the future!

Emory Bookstore Final Photographs

These are the final photos for Emory University's new bookstore, Starbucks and Barnes and Noble. I used hdr photography to make the images have as much detail as possible. The results were amazing went over great with our clients; Gilbane Building Company. I'd love to do more work like this in the future.

Fall Studio Portraits / Philip & Jackson

Philip is seven months old and Jackson is 3 years. These little boys live next door to me and are a joy to photograph. Philip is the happiest baby in the world and so easy in front of the camera. These are great images of him and his little personality!

Jackson wasn't as happy to be photographed that day; we talked to him about shapes, colors and his favorite television characters (like Curious George). He was really laughing in his picture.

Two and Three years olds are always hard, especially since they don't always want to smile and have their picture taken. You always do the best you can until the breakdown happens about 45 minutes into the session. 24 out of 25 children end up breaking down before the session is over. I like to get as many pictures as possible before that happens.

Lower Pool Park Engagement Session Near Buford Dam at Lake Lanier. This is my favorite park and the scenery looks like it's out of a movie. The hardest part is giving directions to a client; since it's not easy to find. These photos however were well worth it.

In the photographs are BreeAnna and Jon, a couple getting married next September. They drove all the way from Villa Ricka to this location. That is a long drive, but I know they loved the results and the awesome view of this park location.

London 10 Weeks Old

London is a 10 week old baby girl that lives in the Vickory Creek area in Cumming, GA, I photographed her in home for her first professional photographs. London didn't love the first white fur and she cried (or either she didn't like her dress), but once we tried a different fabric, the tan fur and changed her clothes she was happy as a lark. There are some great images from the first 45 minutes though; these moments were like gems. I hit the sweet spot at the end of our session. Babies are always unpredictable, but patience is key. The last images were worth waiting for.

Six Day Old Newborn Photo Session

This is Landon James; a six pound adorable baby boy. These photographs were taken for his six day old photo session. He was really good. Even when he's mad he hardly cries at all.

We took our time and I was able to get him into all kinds of positions while sleeping. I only used one backdrop and several different fabrics and baskets. At first he didn't like the fur, but eventually he loved it and just stayed sleeping on the fabric even when the session was over. I love babies and especially sweet little newborns. What a sweet gift to be able to capture these precious moments! I have the best job in the world.

Mud Pies & Pictures Oh Boy!

Kyla is 4 and Ava just turned 2. These little ones love being outside and boy was it hot this day! We were outside for about 30 minutes and their cheeks turned pink in about 10 minutes. I just let them play and tried to direct their play to work for my images. While making mud pies they never paid any attention to me. I had to try and get them to swing so they would focus on me a little bit. Kyla liked to swing high and Ava had to be pushed. Both were easy to photograph once I got them going! I then tried to get them to move to the shade and cool off laying down or sitting under a tree. I love little ones laying down on the grass with their hair out - it just yells summer in Georgia!

Aaden 16 Month Photographs

Outdoors in August is very hot, but these images were made in about 20 minutes while playing outside. Sand was the one distraction we didn't count on and after my child (who is 3 weeks younger than the little one pictured here) and Aaden decided to eat sand; then we had to go inside and clean them up. These pictures are cute because their real moments and smiles, not posed or created for the photo session. Aaden was running in circles and we captured his fun! We did have him sit in a seat for a minute and tried to tickle him for a couple more photographs too. He's too adorable!

This was a session from my Children and Babies One Day Class at the Showcase School of Photography in Atlanta. The images are of three children ages 9,7 & 2. The three of them worked really well together and we never had any meltdowns!

After going to two locations; the first with an old tree swing, large oak tree and in the back yard a great old white barn with large flowering bushes. The second location was in a field of flowers (luckily Kelly had some boots and didn't mind getting a little dirty!). We were able to create some great original artistic images. Since Kelly is my cousin's daughter I was given free artistic range to do whatever I envisioned. This is the kind of photography I love! Now I just need even more clients who love my style and trust in my photographic eye.
